It's August 17th and this date is celebrated every year in Indonesia as Independence Day. It commemorates the country's declaration of independence from the Netherlands in 1945.

However, it took many more years for Indonesia to gain real independence, so this holiday is especially spectacular, with fireworks, military parades, sports events, and so on.
